The origin of thermography
This technique was born in Hannover, Germany, where the astronomer Friedrich Hershel was born. Following Isaac Newton’s light decomposition experiment, he decided to go one step further by measuring the temperature of each reflected color (due to the refraction phenomenon produced by the prism).
Hershel noticed that temperature increased as the light went from the purple side of the spectrum to the red, being red the hottest. Then, he found out that after red, there existed an even hotter area invisible to the human eye.
Thanks to this disclosure, the military industry started implementing thermography in infrared-guided missiles.

The importance of thermography
Thermography is a technique that consists in detecting the infrared energy of an object, which translates as temperature, using a thermographic camera that, through the use of algorithms, makes possible to know EXACTLY the temperature detected. This technique can be applied to a wide variety of fields, from manufacturing industries, to military and medicine.
